Foundation Stage
Musical communication at its simplest level involves an explorative approach whereby pupils create simple music themselves and respond to music made by others. Whole-class-singing is the language of Foundation Stage whereby children learn to sing or respond in particular ways to repeated sections of music. In time, some will also be able to create their own musical patterns using pictures or symbols.
TTTB at Foundation Stage- which is packaged within popular NI Topics such as ‘The Seasons’ and ‘Rhyming Land’- seeks to consolidate phoneme awareness and pre-reading strategies. With ‘pulse’ (finding and keeping a ‘steady beat’) as the order of the day, our units seek to promote the fact that Music and Literacy use the same learning pathway.
Alongside pulse, other musical elements explored include tempo, dynamics and pitch. Lessons are designed to enhance attention and listening, whilst at the same time being movement-friendly and developing other elements of the NI Curriculum such as PE, Drama and PDMU. Through TTTB, our youngest pupils learn to understand themselves better as well as the world around them.
